Mike from Supervixen here. Those who know me well know that the Smashing Pumpkins have long been my favorite band. The drumming of Jimmy Chamberlin was mind-blowing when I was a drummer in high school, and I basically learned to play guitar by trying to learn Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness songs. The layers upon layers and musical complexity was mind-blowing to me in the early 90's. Where other contemporary bands would have 1 or 2 guitars, embracing simplicity, the Pumpkins had a guitar orchestra, sometimes with hundreds of guitar parts layered on one another at once in a veritable guitar symphony.
I've always wanted to do a Pumpkins cover show, but we never found the right time. Well, the time is now. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and to commemorate the occasion we are doing a tribute show at Rapture on Friday Aug 22nd. Obviously we can't do the entire album, but we've prepared a selection of the best of Mellon Collie rawk for you.
We are also debuting our new lineup at this show, our first since COVID sent us into a pandemic-induced hiatus. In true Pumpkins fashion, in a rare vocal switcheroo, I will be playing the part of Billy Corgan, but don't worry, our resident vocal powerhouse Laura will be helping out on keys and backing vocals for this show, and will be back leading the band at our next show. Tucker Titus is returning on drums, absolutely killing it in the role of Jimmy Chamberlin, which are impossibly big shoes to fill. We are also thrilled to welcome Jess Martin on bass, who has quickly become a grounding foundational force in our band, and not just sonically. FInally, I am thrilled to welcome my musical brother Conley Jones to the Supervixen fold playing the part of James Iha (where is that raygun?…).
Hope to see you all at Rapture on 8/22/25 at 9pm! Free show!
